Coach's Corner

  1. Coaches please arrive early to get size 3 balls from storage unit and check nets and fields are set up and safe.
  2. Warm up and work on active drills to develop movement with and without the ball as well as fun, safe and challenging learning of the game for the first 30 minutes and a game for the last 30 minutes.

  4. Game played with 5 players including a goalie if possible.  All players MUST wear shin guards.  Players should not wear anything else dangerous to themselves or to other players such as sunglasses, ball caps and jewelry.
  5. Team coaches will referee games and a parent should help sub players frequently to all positions.
  6. At the start of the game and after each goal, there will be a kickoff at centre field.  Each team must start in their own defensive half until the ball is kicked which must go forwards.
  7. The ball is out of play when the whole ball has crossed the whole endline or sideline or the coach has stopped the game for any reason.  The ball is in play at all other times including when it rebounds from a goalpost, crossbar or the coach.
  8. A goal is scored when the whole of the ball has passed over the whole endline between the goalposts and under the crossbar.
  9. There are no off-sides or penalty kicks.
  10. A free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player kicks, trips, holds or pushes an opponent, plays in a dangerous manner or deliberately uses the hands or arms to play the ball.  All free kicks are indirect meaning a goal cannot be scored until the ball first contacts some other player on either team.  Free kicks are taken from the place where the infraction occurred.  Opposing players must be a distance from the ball until it is kicked.
  11. A goal kick, taken by the goalie, is when a player on the attacking team is the last player to touch the ball over the endline not between goal posts.
  12. A corner kick is taken by the attacking team when a player from the defending team is the last person to touch the ball over their own endline and not between the goal posts.
  13. When a player kicks the ball beyond the sidelines, the other team is awarded a throw-in.  Please give players two tries to throw ball from behind head and feet on the ground.  Also keep other players a few steps back.
  14. Try not to emphasize the score of the game.
  15. All players and coaches should shake hands at the conclusion of game.
  16. Coaches should ensure all players are picked up and balls are back in storage.If coaches are unable to make a game, please ask a parent stand in for you.
  17. Weather permitting soccer is on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and Saturdays from 10-11am.
